Why should I have my children checked if they do not have any back pain? And why would a child even need chiropractic care?
Pediatric chiropractic has existed for over 100 years and many childhood ailments will respond to this safe, natural form of health care. Children encounter many physical stresses during their growing years – the birth process, falling almost constantly when learning to walk, ballet, gymnastics, wrestling with other siblings, falls off the bicycle and myriads of sports related injuries from little league to varsity football or soccer. This stress can cause problems in a child’s spine and can occur at any point in their development. Chiropractic care is a non-invasive treatment option that has been successful in healing both children and adults.
Not only do children deal with the stresses of a growing body, but some are born with health complications. Many newborn children suffer complications like colic, reflux, breastfeeding difficulties, sleep disturbances and chronic infections. These problems are all associated with the nervous system and are often caused by spinal and cranial misalignments.
The human body is one unified system and by treating one area, you are making an impact on the whole system. Chiropractic care specifically deals with the nervous system and spine.
Studies have shown that chiropractic can help children not only with typical back and neck pain complaints but also with issues such as:
- Asthma
- Chronic ear infections
- Nursing difficulties
- Colic
- Bedwetting
Look at your child’s posture without clothing. Are the shoulders level? Is one hip higher than the other? Does the shoulder blade stick out more on one side than the other? Is their head tilted to one side? Lay them flat on the bed with their feet hanging off and look to see if one leg seems longer than the other. If so, better to get your child checked as these are signs of subluxation and best to get them checked by a chiropractor experienced in family care!!
